I was tasked with extending a Medusa.js v2 platform to support a custom wallet and payment system beyond Medusa's built-in providers. The main challenge was doing this without breaking Medusa's module isolation for example, working out where PIN verification logic should live (API/workflow layer, not inside the payment provider itself) so the customization stayed compatible with core upgrades rather than forking framework behavior. I built a custom payment provider, authentication provider, and wrote event subscribers to handle order and transaction workflows. I also added RSA-based encryption for sensitive data in transit ahead of an existing hash-and-compare verification flow, closing a security gap without disrupting the existing architecture. The result was a production payment/wallet system that plugs cleanly into Medusa's plugin and service layer, is upgrade-safe, and handles real transaction volume securely.
